Chevrolet or colloquially Chevy is a brand of automobile, manufactured by General Motors or GM. Chevrolet is the largest selling GM marque and and also the most popular brand produced by GM worldwide. Presently, “Chevy” or “Chevrolet” is almost synonymous to GM or General Motors. More than 20 carriers and several other modernized versions of Chevrolet are presently in the automobile market throughout the world. GM’s stock of automobile ranges everything from commercial truck to subcompact cars. Silverado pickup is among the second best selling models of Chevrolet. Chevrolet Impala is the best selling car from Chevrolet with its United States nameplate.
William C. Durant and Louis Chevrolet are the co-founders of Chevrolet. By profession, Louis Chevrolet was a racing car driver. He was born in the year 1878, 25th December. He was born in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland. William Durant was actually the founder of General Motors. Once he was driven out of GM in the year 1910 he expressed his wish to use the design made by Louis Chevrolet. It is said this was an effort to rebuild his lost reputation to excel in the automobile industry. Before establishing GM, Durant, the head of Buick Motor Company, hired Chevrolet to drive Buicks in all the promotional races.
On November 3, 1911, The main aim of Chevrolet to enter the automobile market around the world on November 3 in the year 1911 to be in a competition with Ford Model T. Around one year after this the “Classic Six” came to the market. The Classic Six was actually a touring sedan that could hold 5 passengers. This model of car was equipped with a 6 cylinder 299 inі or (4.9 L) engine that can propel the car to reach a top speed of 104 km per hour or sixty five miles par hour.

Durant visited Toronto, Ontario in the year 1915 to have an idea whether there is a possibility of establishing an automobile manufacturing company over there or not. The McLaughlin Motor Car Company of McLaughlin, popularly known as “Colonel Sam” produced McLaughlin-Buick. It was a settled fact that the Canada wing of Chevrolet Motor Car Company was operated by McLaughlin. This factory was set up to manufacture Chevrolet cars in the country of Canada. After three years General Motors or GM bought two Canadian companies and over night became General Motors of Canada Ltd.
By the year 1916, the brand Chevrolet became a profitable organization that Durant could buy a large part of the shares of GM. In 1917, as the deal was finalized, Durant became the president of General Motors. Eventually Chevrolet got merged with GM and became a completely different division. In the year 1918 Chevrolet brought D V-8 series model to the automobile market that could accommodate 4 to 5 passengers. These cars comprised of 35 hp, 288ci, engines equipped with 3 speed transmissions and Zenith carburetors.
