Audi

The famous brand of cars gain an extra edge with Audi AG which is an automobile manufacturer of the German nature and has its headquarters in Ingolstadt located in Bavaria and is known to be a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group which owns almost 99.7% of this company. The general tagline of Audi Company is ‘Advancement through Technology’ while the German language tagline is known to be used in the other European countries like those of UK and among the countries like those of Latin America, Oceania and few regions of Asia which also includes Japan. This automobile manufacturing company is known to trace its roots since 1899 and to August Horch whose first automobile was produced in 1901 and in 1909 Horch is known to have been thrown out of the same company that he had once found. This propelled him to come up with another company in Zwickau and it continued to use the brand of Horch and for this he was sued by his former partners who claimed that the Horch brand belonged to them only.

He finally came up with the idea to call his company Audi instead of Horch as Horch meant ‘listen’ in German and this again in Latin meant Audi. Audi took its first step into the automobile business with a model of 2612 cc 4 cylinder and this was followed by a model of 3564 cc inclusive of a 4680 cc and 5720 cc model. To add to his fame these car models were equally popular as sports cars and the company came up with its 1st 6 cylinder model belonging to 4655 cc was introduced in the market in 1924 which was 4 years after Horch left the Audi Company. Audi was being brought up by Jorgen Rasmussen who was the owner of DKW Company and he brought the Rickenbacker’s automobile manufacturing company which also included the 8 cylinder engine manufacturing model. Thanks to Jorgen Rasmussen the purchased engines were then used in the 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder engines manufactured by Audi and the cars from Audi Company in those days were known to be luxury cars that came with exclusive works on the body.

In the year 1932 Audi is known to have been merged with Horch, DKW and Wanderer which led to the formation of Auto Union and prior to the World War II the company of Auto Union is known to have utilized the 4 rings which are interlinked today and is known to be the badge of the Audi company presently. The various developments on the technological fronts tended to become more concentrated on advancement and few of the models of the Audi cars were inspired by engines built by Horch or Wanderer. Unfortunately during the II World War the plants and factories of the Auto Union were massively bombarded and devastated and following the war Zwickau became a part of German Democratic Republic and lastly Auto Union AG was disintegrated. The dissolved automobile company was now known by the name of VEB Automobilewerk Zwickau. In 1964 Volkswagen took over the Ingolstadt based factory and also the brands of the Auto Union and this marked the end of 2 stroke engines which was overshadowed by the popularity of the 4 stroke engines. Lastly the modern era of Audi was introduced as the newly merged company was Audi NSU Auto Union AG and Volkswagen introduced to the US the Audi brand in the year 1970.
