Bentley Bentley Motors is known to be one of the famed luxury automobiles and Grand Tourers manufacturing company which is based in England and was founded on 18th January in the year 1919 and the person who founded this company was Walter Owen Bentley. Walter Bentley was earlier known for the rotary aero-engines range which was highly successful during the World War I and among the most famous brands was Bentley BR1 which later came to be known as Sopwith Camel since 1998 when this company was taken over by the Volkswagen Group. During the Great Depression that actually ruined the demand for the expensive products of the company, the company had to be unfortunately sold in 1931 to Rolls-Royce which merged the Bentley line with its own line of products. Bentley marque came to be known ad the Rolls-Royce and was available for a lower price tag. However in the 1980s Bentley was successful in attaining its separate identity and was once again recognized as the producers of the line of high performance cars. Bentley Continental was reputed to be the notable most cars during the Rolls-Royce period. This version of the cars appeared in different forms since 1952 to 1965 and down to 1999 until its production ceased finally in 2003. The factory of Bentley in Crewe in Cheshire is still reputed as the ‘Royce’s’.
Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motors were taken over by Volkswagen from the Vickers in the year 1998. Volkswagen purchased this company for Ј430 million by bidding against BMW. BMW is known to supply components for the new car types and especially the V8 engines for Bentley Arnage and the V12 engines for the Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph. The BMW came to an agreement with the Volkswagen under which they both agreed to manufacture the cars of Bentley and Rolls-Royce versions till the end of 2002 and after that BMW would own the sole right to manufacture the Rolls-Royce cars. The modern era of Bentley Motors began from the 2002 when Queen Elizabeth was presented with an official Limousine for the celebration of the Golden Jubilee and in 2003 Bentley’s Azure which was the 2 door convertible car from the Bentley versions went out of production and its place was taken up by Bentley Continental GT which is known to be powered by W12 Engine.
April 2005 saw the Bentley plans to produce a 4 seat convertible model known as the Azure and the conversion of successful Continental GT were materialized. The other versions of Bentley vehicles sold in the US are the Arnage Saloon, Hunaudieres Concept, State Limousine, Continental GT coupe, Continental Flying Spur saloon, Azure Convertible, Continental GTC convertible, and Bentley Brooklands coupe.
